The aim of this NIA-supported training program is to train postdoctoral scholars in a highly diverse and integrated program of translational neuroscience research to understand cognitive aging. Each postdoctoral scholar will have a mentoring team. Of 2-4 faculty, providing background in both basic and translational research perspectives. Application information can be found here.

The University of California at Davis has one of the largest concentration of researchers studying learning, memory, and neural plasticity of any university in the world. Researchers study memory in both healthy populations and in individuals with memory disorders, and also in animal models.

Our laboratory focuses on synaptic function and plasticity, especially as it relates to the regulation and modulation of presynaptic ion channels and transmitter release. We generally study these issues using model neuromuscular synapses from both healthy and disease-model animals.

We are intuitively aware that the brain affects immunity. This relationship is manifested by responses such as increased disease prevalence following. Or cure following treatment with a placebo.
